Getting Started

Welcome to my8data — your web-based platform for quality management and statistical analysis. This chapter guides you through the first steps: from registration through the dashboard to your profile settings and license information.

Validation proof: All calculations in my8data are verified against Bosch and AIAG reference values. View validation report (PDF)

Registration & Login

Create an Account

To use my8data, you need a user account. Here's how to register:

  1. Open the my8data homepage and click Register.
  2. Enter your email address and a password. Your email address also serves as your username.
  3. Click Create Account.

Important: The password must be at least 8 characters long. Use a combination of uppercase and lowercase letters as well as numbers.

During registration, an organization is automatically created for you. Information about available licensing models can be found on the pricing page.

Email Verification

After registration, you will receive a confirmation email at the address you provided. Click the link in the email to verify your email address.

Important: You can only log in after successful verification. Without verification, your account is inactive.

Tip: If you don't receive the confirmation email, check your spam folder. You can request the confirmation email again from the login page — click the "Resend confirmation email" link. Resending is possible every 5 minutes.

  1. Open the my8data homepage.
  2. Enter your email address and password.
  3. Click Sign In.

After signing in, you will be redirected directly to the dashboard. my8data remembers your login streak — sign in regularly to keep your streak going.

Info: For security reasons, a maximum of 10 login attempts per minute are allowed. If there are too many failed attempts, you will be asked to wait briefly.

Reset Password

If you forgot your password:

  1. Click Forgot password? on the login page.
  2. Enter the email address of your account.
  3. You will receive an email with a link to reset your password.
  4. Click the link and set a new password (at least 8 characters). Confirm the new password by entering it again.

Info: The reset link is valid for 2 hours for security reasons. A new reset link can only be requested after 20 minutes. For security reasons, the same message is always displayed — regardless of whether the email address exists.

The Dashboard

After signing in, you will arrive at the dashboard — your central overview in my8data. The dashboard greets you with a time-of-day-dependent message (e.g., "Good morning, Max!").

Layout and Structure

The dashboard is divided into three areas:

Area Description
Tools (left) Narrow sidebar with quick access to all analysis modules
Your Analyses (center/right) Table of your saved analyses — sortable, searchable, with actions
Activities (bottom) Expandable feed showing your recent actions

Tools (Quick Access)

The left sidebar shows all modules for which you have permission, grouped in expandable categories:

MSA — Measurement System Analysis
- MSA 1 — Method 1 (Single Part)
- MSA 2 — Method 2 (Crossed/Nested)
- MSA 3 — Method 3 (Extended)
- MSA 7 — Attributive MSA
- MSA 7A — Simplified Attributive MSA

Capability & SPC
- MFU — Machine Capability Study
- PPK — Process Capability
- SPC — Statistical Process Control

Statistics
- Boxplot — Statistical Charts
- Data Generator — Generate Synthetic Test Data
- Raw Data — Import and Analyze Data
- DFQ Converter — AQDEF/DFQ Format Conversion

Info: Modules for which you have no permission are not displayed in the sidebar.

Click on an entry to start a new analysis in the selected module directly.

Your Analyses

The central area displays a table of all your saved analyses. For users with storage permission, an extended table is loaded with the following features:

  • Sorting — Click on a column header to sort analyses by name, type, or date
  • Search — Use the search field to filter analyses by name
  • Actions — Two symbols in the Actions column control all operations (see below)

Action Symbols in the Analysis Table (New as of 10.05.2026)

Each row contains two controls in the Actions column:

Symbol Meaning
↗ (Open Arrow) Open and load the analysis directly. For org templates without ownership rights, this button is disabled — you can only copy the analysis.
⋮ (Three Dots) Opens a context menu with additional actions

Actions in the ⋮ Menu:

Action Description Availability
Copy as New Analysis Creates a copy under a new name All users
Mark as Template Sets/removes the template flag — without changing visibility Owner only
Delete Analysis Permanently deletes the analysis Owner only

Additionally, name, tags, and visibility can be edited directly in the table — via the pencil icons (✏️) next to the respective field (only for your own analyses).

Tip: If you haven't saved any analyses yet, you will see a message: "No analyses yet — Start your first analysis using the quick access on the left!"

Org Templates in the Dashboard (New as of 10.05.2026)

Analyses shared as organization templates can be identified by two badges in the visibility column:

  • 🌐 Org. — Analysis is visible to the entire organization
  • 📑 Template — Analysis is marked as a template

If you are not the creator of an org template, the open button is disabled. You can only use the template via Copy as New Analysis — the copy will then belong to you and can be freely edited.

Your own analyses can also be marked as private templates (template badge without org badge). This is only visible to you and serves as a personal template.

Activities

At the bottom of the dashboard is the activity feed. It displays your recent actions in chronological order — e.g., saved, opened, or deleted analyses.

The feed is expanded by default and can be collapsed and expanded by clicking on the Activities heading.

Profile & Settings

Your personal settings can be found under Settings (accessible via the gear icon in the user dropdown in the top right). The settings page is divided into five tabs:

my8data uses a permission-based system. Access to individual modules is controlled via permissions, which can come from various sources:

Source Description
RBAC Role Assigned by the administrator through the role system
Direct Permission Individually assigned module permissions

Details about available packages can be found on the pricing page.

Available Modules

The following modules can be unlocked:

Module Permission Description
MSA 1 MSA1 Measurement System Analysis Method 1 (Single Part)
MSA 2 MSA2 Measurement System Analysis Method 2 (Crossed/Nested)
MSA 3 MSA3 Measurement System Analysis Method 3 (Extended)
MSA 7 MSA7 Attributive Measurement System Analysis
MSA 7A MSA7A Simplified Attributive MSA
MFU MFU Machine Capability Study
PPK PPK Process Capability Analysis
SPC SPC Statistical Process Control
DFQ Converter DFQ_CONVERTER AQDEF/DFQ Format Conversion

Additional Features

In addition to analysis modules, there are permissions for additional functions:

Function Permission Description
Excel Export export Export analyses as Excel file
Local Data local_data Import/export analyses as JSON
Cloud Storage storage Save and load analyses in the cloud
Teams teams Team management and shared analyses
Template Management template_admin Share analyses as organization templates (New as of 10.05.2026)

Info on Template Admin Permission: Users with template_admin can mark their own analyses as organization templates and share them with all members of the organization. Users without this permission can only copy org templates and use them as their own analysis — they cannot open or modify them directly. The permission is assigned by the administrator through the role system.

View License Status

You can see your current license status on the Settings page in the Permissions tab. All modules are listed there with their status:

  • Active — Module is unlocked
  • Expiration Date — For time-limited permissions
  • Source — Where the permission comes from (role, direct assignment, etc.)
